Job Description This position is responsible for providing instruction and support designed to prepare students for current and future success. The essential functions ensure clarity on the key responsibilities of aComputer Science teacher's role in the Greenbrier School District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Curriculum and Instruction Provides instruction and support designed to prepare students for current and future success through implementation of district-approved curriculum, instructional goals, and aligned Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs of study. Teaches district-approved curriculum daily and delivers instruction aligned to state standards, district expectations, and course competencies. Develops and implements lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning experiences that meet the diverse academic, social, and developmental needs of students. Provides individualized, small group, and differentiated instruction to support student learning and maximize student growth. Implements evidence-based instructional practices, including the Science of Reading, differentiation strategies, and other district instructional initiatives as applicable. Completes required professional development Establishes clear learning objectives for lessons, units, projects, and courses and communicates expectations to students. Creates and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning through effective classroom organization, instructional activities, student engagement, and appropriate learning conditions. Motivates students and provides meaningful learning experiences that promote academic achievement, career readiness, and lifelong learning. Develops and administers content-specific assessments to evaluate student competency levels and inform instructional decisions. Progress monitors student growth, including academic, social, and behavioral development, and uses data to support student success. Communicates student progress and learning outcomes with students and parents/guardians on a continuous basis. Supports students in achieving required course competencies and completion of industry-recognized certifications aligned to the assigned CTE program of study. Actively participates in the development, implementation, and expansion of CTE pathways and programs that support student opportunities in employment, enrollment, and enlistment. Collaborates with CTE educators, business and industry partners, advisory boards, and community organizations to strengthen workforce-aligned learning opportunities. Participates in the district's Career and Technical Education Advisory Board and supports initiatives that enhance career readiness and postsecondary success. Collaborates with colleagues to sponsor, expand, and sustain innovative CTE programs and pathways that provide students with relevant skills and experiences. Participates actively in content area and/or grade-level team collaboration to improve instructional practices and student outcomes. Supports district Social Emotional Learning initiatives and promotes student success and well-being. Ensures substitute teachers have necessary instructional plans, resources, and information. Professionalism Consistently demonstrates effective and productive professional skills and positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and community stakeholders. Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis. Participates in required professional development activities, including job-embedded learning focused on instructional improvement, curriculum development, and student achievement. Engages in collegial and professional activities within the school and district to support continuous improvement. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Follows all state, district, and school policies, procedures, and expectations. Maintains professional confidentiality and appropriate communication regarding student information. Demonstrates commitment to continuous professional growth and implementation of district initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned. Employability Skills Models and develops essential employability skills including communication, collaboration, problem-solving, responsibility, adaptability, professionalism, and work ethic. Creates learning experiences that connect classroom instruction to real-world applications, workplace expectations, and career opportunities. Prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for success in college, career, and community settings. Provides opportunities for students to develop workplace-ready skills through authentic projects, industry-aligned experiences, and career-focused learning. Encourages student ownership, independence, and accountability for academic and career goals. Supports student development of professional behaviors and workplace expectations aligned to industry standards. Promotes student success through meaningful connections between academic content, CTE pathways, industry certifications, and future career opportunities. Physical Requirements Ability to maintain a safe learning environment and ensure the personal safety of students. Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns and/or directing concerns to appropriate personnel. Ability to safely supervise students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Ability to perform physical tasks necessary to support classroom instruction and assigned responsibilities. Job
