Job Description

General Description:
North Arkansas College seeks a full-time instructor to teach lecture and lab college level physical science courses, including chemistry, appropriate for a two-year transfer college curriculum. Other responsibilities include professional development, service on committees, and collaborative work with the full-time science faculty, a close-knit group who share lab spaces, equipment and supplies for the physical science courses. He/she will show a willingness to learn and implement new instructional technologies and pedagogies, including online, remote, and blended learning, and to work independently and collaboratively to improve the curriculum and student learning. This is a nine-month per year position. Evening, weekend, and off-campus instruction will occasionally be required. Duties and Responsibilities Carry out both classroom and non-classroom roles, including: 1) oversight of the curriculum and expectations for student performance; 2) establishment of academic credentials for instructional staff; and, 3) involvement in assessment of student learning. Contribute to scholarship, creative work, and the discovery of knowledge to the extent appropriate to their programs and the institution's mission. Accessible for student inquiry. Prepare for and teach credited courses to include Chemistry and Physical Science, and possibly Geology, Physics, or Astronomy, depending on the credentials of the instructor. Perform other responsibilities associated with instruction including reporting of grades and records, responsive communication with students and supervisors, maintaining office hours, participation in assessment activities, ongoing improvement of curriculum and instructional pedagogies to improve student learning. Participate in professional activities to improve the quality of instruction and student learning, maintain scholarship in the academic field, learn and implement new instructional technologies and pedagogies including online/blended learning. Maintain involvement in activities to contribute to the effective functioning of the department and the College. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned Minimum Education and Experience Master's Degree in Chemistry or Physical Science OR a master's degree and a cohesive set of at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework relevant to the discipline of physical sciences.
