Mount Madonna School is seeking a thoughtful, collaborative, and engaging Upper School Math & Science Teacher to join our dynamic learning community. The ideal candidate is an educator who values relationship-centered teaching and interdisciplinary learning while maintaining high academic standards and a strong commitment to student growth. Position Summary Mount Madonna School seeks a thoughtful, collaborative, and engaging High School Science Teacher to join our Upper School faculty. The ideal candidate is passionate about science education and skilled at creating meaningful learning experiences that foster curiosity, critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving. The successful candidate will teach a combination of high school science courses, including biology, chemistry, physics, science with humanity, engineering, and other electives, based on experience and departmental needs. The successful candidate will teach a range of college-preparatory science courses, integrating honors and Advanced Placement (AP) coursework, and will be able to challenge highly motivated students while supporting diverse learners. This educator will contribute to a dynamic learning environment where students are encouraged to think deeply, engage in authentic scientific investigation, and develop the skills necessary for success in advanced coursework, college, and beyond. In addition to classroom teaching, the position includes advising students, participating in experiential learning programs, and contributing actively to the broader life of the school community. Essential Responsibilities Teaching & Learning Teach high school science courses using engaging, student-centered instructional practices. Design and implement curriculum aligned with departmental goals and college preparatory standards. Foster scientific inquiry through laboratory investigations, project-based learning, engineering design challenges, and real-world applications. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and a range of student abilities. Encourage analytical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and effective communication. Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction. Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students and families. Maintain clear classroom expectations and cultivate a respectful, inclusive learning environment. Integrate technology appropriately to enhance learning and scientific exploration. Advising & Student Support Serve as a student advisor and support students' academic, social, and emotional development. Build strong relationships with students grounded in trust, empathy, and accountability. Communicate proactively and professionally with families and colleagues. Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to support student success. Community Engagement Participate actively in the life of the school, including faculty meetings, community events, experiential learning programs, performances, retreats, and outdoor education activities. Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and curriculum development. Contribute positively to a culture of respect, curiosity, inclusion, and lifelong learning. Uphold Mount Madonna School's mission, values, and professional standards. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred. Prior experience teaching high school mathematics and/or science strongly preferred. Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and effective classroom practices. Ability to inspire students with varying learning styles and academic backgrounds. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices. Enthusiasm for experiential, interdisciplinary, and relationship-centered education. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching multiple levels of upper school math and/or science. Ability to integrate technology meaningfully into instruction. Interest in contributing to electives, clubs, athletics, service learning, or student activities.
