Job Description

Banning Lewis Prep Academy, serving grades 6-12, is one of two campuses (Banning Lewis Ranch Academy—K-5 is the other), and is a tuition-free public charter school authorized by District 49, proudly serving the Banning Lewis Ranch community and surrounding neighborhoods in northeastern Colorado Springs. Our mission is to create a safe, supportive environment where students thrive academically and develop skills, character, and mindset to effectively engage with the world. Position Overview The Secondary Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction that develops students' understanding of scientific concepts, inquiry skills, and real-world application of science. This position fosters a structured and interactive classroom environment where students explore physical and earth systems through investigation, experimentation, and critical thinking while aligning with PBIS, CKH, and restorative practices. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Lesson Design Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned to science standards. Emphasize scientific inquiry, problem-solving, and real-world application of physical and earth science concepts. Design and implement hands-on labs, experiments, and investigations. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Assessment & Feedback Design and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student learning and progress. Provide timely, actionable feedback on student understanding and performance. Use assessment data to guide instruction and support student growth. Classroom Culture & Management Establish clear expectations, routines, and safety procedures. Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment. Reinforce PBIS expectations consistently to promote positive behavior and a respectful classroom culture. CKH & Relationship Building Build strong relationships that foster trust, engagement, and curiosity. Encourage student confidence, perseverance, and active participation in scientific learning. Restorative Practices Address behavior through reflective and restorative approaches that support student growth. Collaboration Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to plan instruction and analyze student data. Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and improve student outcomes. Operational Support Maintain lab materials, equipment, and safety standards. Support school events, supervision duties, and testing as needed. Commitment to School Climate and Culture The Secondary Science Teacher promotes a culture where all students can engage in scientific thinking and inquiry through high expectations, hands-on learning, and strong relationships. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a science field or a related field in education. Ability to obtain a valid Colorado teaching license. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching high school secondary science. Knowledge of courses such as Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Physics, Environmental Sciences, or related content areas. Experience with laboratory instruction and scientific inquiry-based learning. Skills & Competencies Strong content knowledge in physical and earth science concepts. Instructional design and differentiation. Classroom management. Data analysis and responsiveness. Ability to facilitate inquiry-based and hands-on learning. Work Environment & Physical Demands Work in a classroom and laboratory-based setting with regular standing, movement, and student interaction. Supervise lab activities while maintaining safety procedures and occasionally lifting materials and equipment. Why Join Us? Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive compensation package that includes group insurance (health, dental, and vision), paid sick and personal leave, and participation in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA) as our retirement plan.
Salary Range:
$51,000 - $65,000 This position will be for the 2026-2027 school year.
Pay:
$51,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
