Position Summary Danbury Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Teacher to provide high-quality instruction that prepares students with practical life skills, career readiness competencies, and academic knowledge related to family and consumer sciences. The successful candidate will create an engaging learning environment that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world application of skills. Candidates should be committed to supporting diverse learners and collaborating with colleagues, families, and the school community to maximize student success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging Family and Consumer Sciences instruction aligned with district curriculum, state standards, and Board of Education expectations. Develop and implement lesson plans that promote student engagement, critical thinking, creativity, and career readiness skills. Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages active participation and respect among all students. Establish and reinforce clear expectations, routines, and behavioral standards that promote positive student conduct and academic achievement. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and cultural needs of students. Design and administer a variety of assessments to measure student learning and use assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes. Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to students and families regarding academic performance and growth. Maintain accurate and complete records in accordance with district policies and state requirements. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians through conferences, progress reports, report cards, and other appropriate means. Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, administrators, and support staff to enhance student learning and school improvement efforts. Assist in the selection and maintenance of instructional materials, equipment, and resources related to Family and Consumer Sciences programs. Participate in professional learning opportunities, department meetings, faculty meetings, and other district-required activities. Engage in the district's professional evaluation process and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth. Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum, instructional practices, and current educational trends. Ability to create meaningful learning experiences that connect classroom instruction to real-world applications and career pathways. Strong classroom management and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners. Experience working with diverse student populations and creating inclusive learning environments. Ability to utilize technology to support instruction, assessment, and communication. Qualifications Must hold or be eligible for appropriate Connecticut certification in Family and Consumer Sciences as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; Master's degree preferred. Demonstrated successful teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level. Experience working in a multicultural and diverse educational environment preferred. Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and support the needs of all learners. Strong human relations skills and the ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, and staff. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable. Salary Salary and benefits are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education.
