Aug 12, 2026 Job Description 6th/7th Grade Math & Science Teacher Horizon Science Academy Davenport (HSAD) Davenport, IA Position Overview Horizon Science Academy Davenport is seeking a full-time 6th/7th Grade Math and Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This teacher will deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in mathematics and science while supporting school-wide academic systems, including MTSS and PBIS, and contributing to a strong, student-centered school culture. This role reflects the collaborative, flexible staffing model at HSA—teachers may support additional instructional blocks, interventions, or operational needs throughout the school day. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons in middle school math and science Integrate STEM-based learning experiences and real-world applications Use data to drive instruction and adjust strategies to meet student needs Support literacy development within content areas (reading, writing, academic language) Student Support & MTSS Implement MTSS Tier 1 instruction and provide Tier 2/3 interventions as assigned Monitor student progress using assessment data and contribute to intervention planning Ensure required state-mandated intervention plans are implemented with fidelity Classroom Culture & Management Establish and maintain a structured, positive classroom aligned to PBIS expectations Create an inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and growth Effectively manage classroom behavior to maximize instructional time Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with grade-level and content teams to plan instruction and review data Work with SPED, ELL, and support staff to meet diverse learner needs (IEPs, accommodations) Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs School-Wide Contributions Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional learning, and staff meetings Support supervision duties (arrival, dismissal, lunch, etc.) Provide additional instructional or operational support as needed (intervention blocks, small groups, enrichment, etc.) Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education or related field Valid Iowa teaching license (5-12 or middle school endorsement) in Math and/or Science Ability or willingness to obtain dual endorsement preferred Demonstrated ability to deliver effective instruction and manage a classroom Experience with MTSS, PBIS, and data-driven instruction preferred Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills Preferred Experience Prior experience teaching middle school math and/or science Experience in a STEM-focused or charter school environment Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including SPED and ELL students Compensation & Benefits Starting salary: $50,000+, based on experience Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and holidays Tuition reimbursement Participation in IPERS retirement system Work Schedule Monday-Friday Typical hours: ~7:30 AM - 3:30 PM In-person position About Horizon Science Academy Davenport HSA Davenport is a STEM-focused public charter school committed to preparing students for success in college and beyond through rigorous academics, strong relationships, and a culture of continuous improvement.
