Sep 1, 2026 Job Description About Winthrop House Winthrop House is a therapeutic, substantially separate program within Brookline High School designed to support students with social-emotional, behavioral, and learning needs. The program provides a structured, relationship-centered environment with small class sizes, individualized supports, and integrated clinical services. Winthrop House emphasizes skill-building in self-regulation, executive functioning, and academic engagement while maintaining alignment with Brookline High School's rigorous academic standards and graduation requirements. Position Overview Winthrop House is seeking a dynamic and flexible Science Teacher to serve students in grades 9-12. The ideal candidate is collaborative, student-centered and can deliver standards-based science instruction across multiple content areas while supporting diverse learning and therapeutic needs. This position requires teaching four science subject areas aligned with grade-level offerings, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Current Topics in Science, within a supportive and structured classroom environment. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver differentiated, standards-aligned instruction in high school science courses including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Current Topics in Science Adapt curriculum, instruction, and assessment to meet a wide range of academic levels and learning profiles Create a safe, predictable, and engaging classroom environment that supports students' social-emotional and behavioral needs Implement IEP accommodations and modifications in collaboration with special education and clinical staff Use data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including related service providers, counselors, and administrators Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs Support students in developing executive functioning, self-regulation, and independence skills Participate in team meetings, professional development, and program-wide initiatives Qualifications Massachusetts teaching licensure in Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8 or 5-12) required Certification in at least two science content areas (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science) required Demonstrated ability to teach multiple science disciplines at the high school level Experience working with students with disabilities and/or therapeutic needs strongly preferred Strong skills in differentiation, classroom management, and relationship-building Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a therapeutic educational setting Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices Additional Requirements Willingness to obtain and maintain QBS/Safety-Care certification (training provided) This is an opportunity to join a dedicated team committed to supporting students' academic and social-emotional growth within a highly supportive public school setting.
