Science Teacher, Gr. 6 (1 year contract)

Job Description:

Brookline Science teachers teach via hands-on inquiry to guide students toward deep understanding of key science concepts and mastery of science and engineering practices. They are passionate about Science, facilitate engaging student-centered learning and are lifelong learners. Duties include but are not limited to: Demonstrate appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction Hold high expectations for all students Organize and use a variety of effective teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technologies to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings Continuously assess student progress, provide students and parents with specific feedback, and use the results to adjust instruction as needed Provide opportunities for academic support and challenge Teaching the appropriate Brookline learning expectations Demonstrate an understanding of how knowledge in the subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences Keep current in the field of Science, innovative teaching strategies and learning research, share their learning with others and apply what they learn in the classroom Collaborate with colleagues to examine student data, plan curriculum, and ensure appropriate learning experiences for all students Establish and maintain a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree with major or minor in Science Proficiency in teaching Science via hands-on inquiry and student-centered learning Working knowledge of the MA Science, Technology and Engineering framework, including science and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts Familiarity with topics taught in 6 th grade Science (Physical properties of water, water ecosystems, the water cycle, changes in the Earth's surface, cells, and the nervous system) Excellent classroom management skills Mass.
