The Department of Biomedical & Nutritional Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks applications for a part-time Adjunct Instructor for the 2026-2027 academic year. During the Fall 2026 semester, responsibilities will consist of developing a new 3-credit combined undergraduate/graduate Advanced Histology Laboratory (BMSC.4530/5530) course. During the Spring 2027 semester responsibilities will consist of managing and teaching the course. This is a non-benefited, contractual position. The successful candidate will manage the prepping and in-person instruction of an advanced histology course, including histopathology, combining both undergraduate and graduate levels, emphasizing hands-on technical training and tissue analysis. Essential Job Duties During fall 2026: set up the designated laboratory space, assisted by staff and higher-level students who will earn credit for their work, while developing the lectures and laboratory exercises in histological principles and techniques, for implementation in spring 2027. Staring spring 2027: collaborate with staff to prepare the laboratory for the delivery of twice-weekly one-hour pre-laboratory lectures and two-hour laboratory exercises in histological techniques. Serve as Primary Instructor of a twice-weekly scheduled laboratory section (two 3-hour sessions) Provide technical instruction in tissue processing, microtomy, staining, and microscopy Evaluate student performance and progress through practical exams, written work, and participation Maintain a safe laboratory environment and ensure compliance with university safety policies Utilize instructional technologies, including Canvas and digital imaging platforms Appointment Information Position Type:

Commensurate with experience and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in a Biological Science, Biomedical Science, Histology, or a closely related field Demonstrated experience with histological laboratory techniques Prior teaching or training experience in a laboratory setting involving histology and histopathology Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree in a related discipline Experience with digital pathology or image analysis tools (e.g., ImageJ, QuPath) Experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level Special Instructions to Applicants:
