About Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS) Founded in 1998, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS) is a high-performing public K-12 charter school located in Malden, Massachusetts, serving more than 1,750 students. Student success at MVRCS is driven by exceptional educators, a carefully selected and faithfully implemented curriculum, high expectations, and a commitment to traditional pedagogy. MVRCS is consistently ranked among the top public schools in Massachusetts, New England, and across the nation. Our graduates achieve outstanding success at the post-secondary level, reflecting the strong academic foundation built during their time at Mystic Valley. Students in Grades K-12 attend school in dress code for 200 instructional days each year and benefit from an extended school day, approximately 60 minutes longer than most traditional public schools. These elements enable MVRCS to deliver on its mission of providing all students with access to a world-class education.
Position Overview:
Grades 7-12 Biology Teacher Full-Time | Malden, MA The Biology Teacher is responsible for delivering Mystic Valley Regional Charter School's Biology program in Grades 7-12. Instruction is aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum and methodology. MVRCS's high school program also includes the rigorous and internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) program, and teaching assignments may include IB Biology coursework. Key Responsibilities Implement the Biology curriculum in Grades 7-12, including Core Knowledge and, where applicable, IB coursework Teach up to five classes daily, each aligned with established curriculum and instructional expectations Deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons with clear and measurable learning objectives Incorporate laboratory investigations, experiments, and hands-on activities to reinforce key biological concepts Assess student progress regularly and provide timely feedback through progress reports and report cards Administer standardized assessments as directed by the Science Department Chair and Leadership Team Collaborate weekly with colleagues in the Science Department to align curriculum, analyze data, and refine instructional practices Maintain a structured classroom and laboratory environment using the school's discipline model Ensure the safe and appropriate use of laboratory equipment and materials Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Science Department Chair and/or Assistant Director Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field required Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to analyze data, assess student performance, and adjust instruction accordingly Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues Strong organizational and time management skills Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a team environment Deep content knowledge in biology Experience designing and implementing lab-based instruction preferred Ability to plan and deliver lessons aligned with school and curricular goals Successful completion of applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment Additional Information This position reports to the Science Department Chair Annual appointment with yearly performance evaluation Equal Opportunity Employer Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is an equal opportunity employer.
