Job Description

KALAMAZOO AREA MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE CENTER
is seeking a Computer Science Teacher for Accelerated Program Fall 2026 KAMSC is a countywide public-funded mathematics and science center for academically talented 9th through 12th grade students in Kalamazoo County. The center has high national visibility and a reputation for excellence. During its 39 years of operation, the program has tenth-grade provided rigorous and enriched mathematics and science courses for selected students of the Kalamazoo area. Students from the Kalamazoo County schools come to the center for half of their school day. Teachers voluntarily work on Wednesday evenings to interact with students and provide additional support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Michigan Certification - Possible Certifications include: Computer Science (NR) , Secondary Mathematics (EX), or Science preferred and significant professional development or experience in computer science Major in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or another related field. Master's Degree, or equivalent experience, in a related math or science area (Math, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.). 2. Must be able to teach AP Computer Science-A, AP Computer Science Principles and a background in cyber security desired. Java, C++, Python, HTML, Javascript are all languages used/needed. Skillsets with AI, 3D printing, prototyping, and robotics desired as well as any relevant computer certifications. 3. Proven experience working with students and building relationships and a willingness to work with the tenth-grade team to conduct 10th grade team building experiences at KAMSC. Collaboration and organizational skills while working with parents and students for field trips, competitions etc. 4. Experience in coaching students through challenging academics. 5. Three years of teaching experience or equivalent experience. 6. Willingness to lead, organize, participate in responsibilities at times other than usual school hour for these required activities: University hosted computer science competitions for high school students Sophomore team building events Field trips Open Lab Sophomore extra curricular experiences with the sophomore team Assist with the KAMSC Research program (as related to computer programming and poster design) and career and college readiness projects (alongside the research director/career and college readiness leads) 7. Desire to work with advanced level students under innovative conditions. 8. Willingness to pursue professional development to stay on top of changes and developments in computer science and computer science education.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. Have proven ability to use multiple instructional and assessment strategies, including making use of the graphing calculator and other technologies including Apple computers, 3D printers, chromebooks etc. 2. The teacher should be flexible and able to work with students successfully in situations other than the traditional classroom and willing to incorporate community resources into the instructional experience. 3. Applicants with proven experience working collaboratively with colleagues preferred 4. Evidence of contributing to the greater professional community, such as contributing to state, regional, and/or national conferences.
