SECONDARY SCIENCE TEACHER

Alexander Central High School General Statement of Job\nAlexander Central High School is seeking a dedicated and dynamic High School Science Teacher to join our instructional team. The primary focus of this position will be Earth and Environmental Science, with the potential to teach a few sections of Biology depending on the background knowledge and experience of the applicant. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering scientific inquiry, promoting academic rigor, and preparing students for future success in a supportive and safe learning environment.\n

Qualifications:

\nValid North Carolina teaching license in the appropriate high school science subject areas or eligibility to obtain one.\nStrong background knowledge in Earth and Environmental Science, with proficiency to instruct Biology courses.\nStrong classroom management and communication skills.\nCommitment to supporting diverse student learning pathways.\n

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

\nDesign and implement engaging, standards aligned lesson plans for Earth and Environmental Science courses, as well as designated Biology classes.\nPlan, prepare, and safely set up instructional laboratory experiments that incorporate diverse, hands on science activities.\nUtilize data driven instruction to monitor student progress and maximize academic achievement on school goals.\nMaintain a well organized, safe, and positive classroom environment conducive to student learning and engagement.\nCollaborate effectively with the science department, school administration, and parents to support student growth.\nTreats all students in a fair and equitable manner; interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community.\nCollaborate effectively with the social studies department, school administration, and parents to support student growth.\nMaintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information.\nEvaluates the academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records.\nOrganizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.\nEstablishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and promote effective participation in all activities.\nCommunicates effectively with parents through a variety of means and encourages parental involvement in students' education.\nContinues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings.\nIdentifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health and learning problems.\nSupervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.\nAdministers standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing requirements.\nSelects and requisitions instructional materials.\nPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent\nEssential Knowledge and Abilities\nMust be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations that interrupt normal daily schedules.\nRequires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things.\nRequires the ability to read and prepare a variety of correspondence including reports, handbooks, forms, lists, instructional materials, etc.\nRequires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants. Also includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.\nRequires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.\nRequires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.\nMust be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, etc.\nMust be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, care, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.\nThe knowledge and abilities described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
