A Science Teacher teaches in the natural science fields for elementary to secondary school students. Most science courses taught prior to high school are general, with specialization occurring later in high school. Teachers may teach specialized courses in physics, biology or chemistry. Other topics taught include physical science, computer science, astronomy, and geology.
Under the general supervision of the School Director, to develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including Biology, General science, and electives courses related to STEM education, which develops students' Engineering and Science practices, and problem-solving, as well as an understanding of the application of science in the solution of practical problems.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred) from an accredited institution. Valid NJ Certification (CE or CEAS) in Biology. Valid driver's license or reliable transportation. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficient in educational technology and software tools. Maintains confidentiality in school-related matters. Understanding of child development and diverse learner needs. Knowledge of education laws, curriculum, and instructional strategies. Familiarity with a broad range of science subjects. Committed to professional growth and self-evaluation. Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. The Biology Teacher is responsible for delivering science instruction aligned with district curriculum and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), fostering critical and creative thinking in a safe and supportive classroom environment. They design engaging lessons and hands-on activities that connect scientific concepts to real-life applications, while ensuring proper use and care of scientific equipment and materials. The teacher continuously assesses student progress, adapts instruction to meet individual needs—including those with special needs—and maintains accurate records of student achievement and attendance. They stay current with educational developments through professional learning, encourage parental involvement, uphold school behavior standards, collaborate with colleagues, and manage instructional resources and equipment effectively. Experience:
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
