Summary This faculty position is responsible for working in the Computer Information Technology (CIT) department within the Business Academic Area supporting the CIT Infrastructure program. This instructor must be able to prepare and deliver instruction in networking, computer hardware, operating systems, cloud-computing, and cybersecurity as well as support other general IT courses. NMC is an authorized Cisco Networking Academy, and the CIT Infrastructure program utilizes Cisco Networking Academy curricula for some courses. If this instructor is not already certified to teach Cisco Network Academy courses, this instructor will be required to attend and pass Cisco's Train-the-Trainer program in order to be certified to teach the Cisco Routing and Switching curriculum. This is an expectation of employment and funding is provided. Industry certification is highly valued in the CIT Department, and the CIT Infrastructure program utilizes industry certifications in many courses. With the exception of the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum, this instructor will be required to become certified in the content areas they teach within one year of employment. This instructor is expected to develop curricula, deliver content using a variety of formats, assess student learning and program quality, maintain industry relationships, advise students, and contribute to the growth and development of the academic area. A CIT instructor is expected to stay up to date with IT tools and technology; professional development funding is provided. This position includes the possibility of teaching using different delivery formats (in-person, hybrid, online, accelerated) and at different times (day, night, summer semester). Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree Two years of IT-related experience or teaching experience Related Industry certification Preferred Five years of IT-related experience or teaching experience at the college level CompTIA-related industry certifications Experience in online course instruction Experience in academic advising Experience with course development Essential Responsibilities Provide classroom/lab instruction to students and develop theory including but not limited to online, accelerated, livestream, hybrid and face-to-face formats Supervisory Responsibilities None Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Develop, revise, evaluate, and instruct CIT courses with primary responsibility for the Cisco Networking Academy and other CIT-Infrastructure curricula. 2. Oversee NMC's Cisco Academy program 3. Instruct at least 15 contact hours per semester, 30 hours per academic year. 4. Interact with the local business community, including the CIT Advisory Committee. 5. Assess student performance. 6. Support and mentor adjunct faculty. 7. Recommend and implement program and course revisions. 8. Pursue ongoing professional development, including relevant industry certifications. Teaching Responsibilities When teaching any classroom or lab courses, the instructor will meet the responsibilities of regular faculty in the areas of Curriculum, Teaching Effectiveness, Faculty Professional Development, Support of College, Community Initiatives, and Professional Qualities and Abilities.
  • Compiles, administers, and grades examinations and other learning activities
  • Uses current and emerging technologies in distance learning and in the classroom; conducts classroom research with classroom assessment techniques
  • Listens to students and coaches them to actively participate in the learning process
  • Uses a variety of assessments to promotes student demonstration of learning through exams, discussions, debates, presentations, simulations, and/or debriefings
  • Provides a course syllabus to the students that includes the College Syllabus information outlined in Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Is accessible to students during formal office hours and other times as needed
  • Maintains and regularly updates LMS gradebook and/or other electronic grading systems Faculty Professional Development Continually engages in learning and scholarship in the area of specialization Support of College, Community Initiatives
  • Participates actively in the shared governance system
  • Participates in CIT and academic area meetings and other scheduled area activities, including participating in writing and supporting accreditation standards
  • Meets requirements for faculty evaluation and academic advising
  • Serves on specific academic area and college-wide committees
  • Supports the academic area and college through other work normally expected of faculty members
