TEACHER PRINCIPAL FUNCTION
To help students learn by imparting knowledge to them and by planning and implementing instructional practices in which students can and will learn effectively.
REPORTS TO
Building Principal, Assistant Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Development and PPS (if appropriate or applicable)
SUPERVISES
Classroom support staff
JOB GOAL
Guide students toward gaining knowledge and skills, pursuant to the District's, NYS and Federal established learning objectives, in order to become productive citizens.
PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the times designated. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest and abilities of students. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals. Establish and communicate clear objectives to the students for all lessons, units and projects. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Strive by instruction and action to implement the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives and performance expectations as outlined in the teacher evaluation program. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provide progress reports and report cards as required, and communicate with parents as deemed necessary. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by Federal and State law, district policy and administrative regulations. Adhere to all Board Policies and Regulations. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Align classroom practices and student behavioral expectations with the District code of conduct and with established administrative policies. Develop rules of classroom behavior which are enforced in a fair and just manner. Make provisions for being available to students and parents by appointment for educationally related purposes. Maintain an ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements, but also satisfies personal expectations as a professional. Maintain valid certification as required by NYS Department of Education and Commissioner's Regulations. Take an active part in the district approved teacher evaluation process. Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among the staff. May serve on district committees, which develop curriculum and enhance instruction. Attend established traditional school sponsored activities (i.e., back to school night, parent-teacher conferences, open house, programs, activities) agreed upon by the building administrator and the faculty. Contribute to the decisions made by the district and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum and personal well-being as requested by the Principal. Use assessment results as an instructional tool.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
10 Month year according to CBA and NYS Commissioner; salary, workday/year and benefits as established by the Board
EVALUATION
At least annually by the principal or other district supervisor.
LOCATIONS WHERE WORK MAY BE PERFORMED
On-site or remotely as determined by the Superintendent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Able to lift 25lbs, able to assist and safely supervise students, able to perform essential functions as described above. Job Qualifications

Pending or Valid NYS Teacher Certification:
General Science (7-12), and either Biology (7-12) or Earth Science (7-12) Job Category Teacher, Science Job Location Greenwood Lake Middle School
