Job Description
Primary Purpose Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the Health Science Technology program designed to fulfill their maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Prepare students for success in healthcare careers by delivering high-quality instruction aligned to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), facilitating Patient Care Technician (PCT) certification preparation and testing, and supervising students participating in clinical learning experiences. Qualifications Education/Certification Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate Health Science or Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Current industry-recognized healthcare credential required (such as Certified Patient Care Technician, Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Certified Medical Assistant, or other approved credential). Eligible to teach Health Science courses under Texas Education Agency (TEA) certification requirements. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Experience Minimum of two years of wage-earning experience in the healthcare industry preferred. Experience in patient care settings such as hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, or other healthcare environments. Experience supervising students, interns, or trainees preferred. Experience preparing students for industry-based certifications preferred. Major Responsibilities and Duties Develop and implement engaging lessons aligned with TEKS and district curriculum. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology resources, and hands-on learning experiences. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Maintain a safe and effective classroom and laboratory environment. Prepare students for PCT certification requirements. Deliver instruction in patient care skills and healthcare competencies. Coordinate certification testing and maintain documentation. Coordinate student clinical placements. Supervise students in clinical settings. Conduct site visits and maintain clinical records. Promote professionalism and ethical conduct. Advise students on healthcare career pathways. Support participation in healthcare-related student organizations. Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. Ensure compliance with district policies and healthcare regulations. Maintain records and support program improvement. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development. Collaborate with stakeholders. Attend meetings and comply with all requirements. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise students in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical environments and coordinate with clinical site personnel. Working Conditions Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties requiring standing, walking, and demonstration of healthcare procedures. Performance Indicators Student achievement and growth, certification pass rates, clinical completion, compliance with program requirements, positive stakeholder feedback, and effective management of learning environments.
