Schools are located in small, road-inaccessible villages serving Alaska Native communities. Teachers travel to the villages by small plane and live in close-knit communities with limited services and amenities. This role is best suited for individuals who are independent, adaptable, and committed to community-based education. While rewarding, it is not a traditional teaching or lifestyle experience . About the Role We are seeking U.S. state-certified teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. Out-of-state certification is accepted; however, candidates must complete Alaska licensure requirements, which include document verification and an FBI background check. Students, families, and teachers work closely together, and cultural respect is central to success in this environment.

Early 2026 Compensation and Housing A competitive salary, based on experience and credentials Annual step increases for returning teachers Housing is secured with assistance from the district and is subsidized Travel to the village is reimbursed by the district Housing is pet-friendly, though availability varies by unit Expectations and Considerations Candidates should be prepared for: Living in a small Indigenous community Limited local amenities (stores, healthcare, recreation) Harsh weather conditions and weather-dependent travel Close integration into community life Independent problem-solving and communication Completing the Alaska licensure process and background checks This placement is a strong fit for teachers who value cultural learning, rural education, and long-term community impact.
