Course assignments are based on departmental needs and the successful candidate's qualifications and expertise. Instruction may be delivered face-to-face in classroom or lab settings, online, or in a hybrid format. Adjunct instructors are hired on a per course basis with teaching assignments typically ranging from 2-12 instructional hours per week, depending on the course load and semester schedule. Position Responsibilities Adjunct instructors are expected to collaborate with colleagues, effectively use the College's learning management system, and demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence within Alverno's ability-based curriculum.

Responsibilities include:

Plan and teach courses in the assigned discipline. Deliver engaging, high-quality instruction using effective teaching strategies that foster an inclusive learning environment. Develop and/or refine performance-based assessments aligned with course outcomes and Alverno's Eight Abilities, providing timely, meaningful written and verbal feedback to students. Promote student success through responsive communication, growth-oriented feedback, and instructional practices that support diverse learners. Collaborate with STEM faculty to ensure a student-centered educational experience and address student questions and concerns. Demonstrate a commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful engagement with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, social-economic, or educational backgrounds. Comply with all laboratory safety regulations when teaching laboratory courses. Qualifications Previous college-level classroom and/or laboratory teaching experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge, experience, or expertise supporting successful college-level teaching. Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in teaching and learning.

Education Classroom instruction:

Ph.D. in the teaching discipline preferred.

Laboratory instruction:

Master's degree or higher in the teaching discipline or science education preferred. Candidates with other relevant graduate degrees and significant professional or teaching experience may also be considered. Knowledge of or willingness to teach within Alverno College's ability-based educational model is required.
