00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications) About Us Sankofa University , the school age program of West End Community Empowerment Project of Lexington, Inc. , provides high-quality academic enrichment and creative and performing arts programming for school-age youth during out of school time. Our mission is centered on empowering children to grow academically, socially, and creatively in a safe, structured, and engaging environment. We are seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and positive Program Instructors who are passionate about working with children and making a meaningful impact in their community. Position Summary The Program Instructor is responsible for supervising and engaging school-age children in academic enrichment, recreational activities, and creative programming in a safe and supportive environment. Instructors serve as positive role models and help maintain a structured, respectful, and fun learning atmosphere. Responsibilities Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times Lead and assist with academic enrichment and homework support Facilitate structured activities such as arts, games, STEM, and enrichment programs Maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment Implement daily schedules and follow program policies and procedures Communicate effectively with staff, students, and families Maintain cleanliness and organization of program areas Assist with transitions, meals/snacks, and group management Report incidents, concerns, or behavioral issues to program leadership Serve as a positive role model for youth Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age High School Diploma or GED required Experience working with children preferred (childcare, camps, schools, mentoring, etc.) Ability to manage groups of children in a structured setting Strong communication and teamwork skills Reliable, punctual, and professional Ability to pass required background checks Preferred Qualifications CPR / First Aid Certification(completed upon hire) Experience in education, youth programs, or childcare Skills in arts,lifeskills, mentoring, tutoring, STEM, music, or performing arts
