Fall Session Checkmate Academy Location:
Portland $50- 60/hour Checkmate Academy is hiring enthusiastic and reliable after school chess instructors to teach beginner-level chess to elementary and middle school students in Oregon.
What We're Looking For:
Strong understanding of chess fundamentals (minimumELO 1000
preferred but not required). Passion for teaching and inspiring young minds through chess. Excellent communication and classroom management skills. Ability to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Reliable transportation and ability to commute to schools in Springfield. Experience working with children in group settings (teaching, coaching, tutoring, or mentoring is a plus). Responsibilities•After School Chess Instructor:
Lead fun, structured, and educational chess lessons following Checkmate Academy's curriculum guidelines. Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere where students of all skill levels feel supported. Manage classroom dynamics effectively and ensure an inclusive learning space. Provide individualized guidance and support to students as needed. Serve as an ambassador for Checkmate Academy, maintaining strong relationships with schools and parents. We operate after-school programs in 100+ schools across California, Massachusetts, and Oregon including our MarinChess branch- the largest after-school chess provider in the San Francisco Bay Area.
