Job Description
The YMCA of Centre County is seeking enthusiastic and safety-focused Rock Climbing Instructors/Staff to support our climbing programs and climbing wall operations. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with people of all ages, have a passion for climbing, and are committed to creating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for participants. Primary Responsibilities Supervise climbing wall activities and ensure adherence to all safety policies and procedures. Teach climbing techniques, equipment use, belaying skills, and safety practices to participants of varying ages and experience levels. Conduct equipment inspections and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the climbing area. Monitor participants and provide encouragement, instruction, and support throughout climbing sessions. Respond appropriately to emergencies and report incidents to supervisors. Create a positive and inclusive environment that promotes skill development, confidence, and enjoyment. Assist with special events, group programs, and climbing-related activities as needed. Qualifications Previous climbing experience required; climbing instruction or belay certification preferred. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work effectively with children, teens, adults, and families. Commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment. Weekend availability is required. Salary & Benefits $15.00-$20.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. 403(b) retirement program. Generous employee discounts on YMCA programs.
