Job Description

Position Information Position Title Student Instructor for Sports and Wellness (Student) Academic Year 2026-2027 UIW Mission University of the Incarnate Word is a Catholic institution that welcomes to its community persons of diverse backgrounds, in the belief that their respectful interaction advances the discovery of truth, mutual understanding, self-realization, and the common good. Position Summary The Student Instructor for Sports and Wellness is responsible for teaching classes for Sports and Wellness facilities, including water aerobics, group aerobics, group swim lessons, and individual swim lessons. The Student Instructor for Sports and Wellness reports to the Assistant Director of Sports and Wellness. This is a student position open to current UIW students. Essential Functions Teach classes to students of all abilities and performing related administrative duties. Conduct classes for students, faculty, staff, community members, and Collegiate Club Sport Athletes. Complete daily walkthroughs of the facility. Informs administration of issues and is responsible for ensuring the aerobic equipment is functional and up to standards. Keep up with current trends and standards in their field of instruction. Understand and represent the mission and vision of UIW and UIWSports and Wellness. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities Possess the skills and expertise necessary to instruct student, faculty, and staff in the skills of their specialty. Good customer relation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Effective instruction techniques and skills. Thorough knowledge of their field including, strategies, techniques, and progression. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA. Required Education Current UIW Student Required Work Experience Two (2) or more years' experience teaching in their specialty/certification in an exercise environment Preferred Qualifications None. Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations Certification in instruction by a nationally recognized organization; CPR and First Aid Certification Work Hours Available weekends and evenings as duties required. Required to cover special events, holidays and school break schedules as required by the Assistant Director of Sports and Wellness. Physical Demands Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
