Job Description

Summer Camp Mentor Position Ashlar is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides nature-based, holistic, and emergent education and enrichment to preschool and homeschool children in Maple Valley, WA and surrounding areas. We are seeking a qualified mentor to co-lead our nature-based summer camps in July and August. Camp Mentors are the heart of our summers: they set the tone for a whimsical and wondrous camp experience. Each day, our camp includes themed, hands-on activities; art/crafts and other opportunities for creative expression; social-emotional learning; child-led discovery, exploration, and play; games and physical activities such as dancing, hiking, yoga, etc.
The ideal candidate:
Loves being in nature; Is energized working with children; Is punctual and communicative; Brings positive and collaborative energy; Leads with compassion and curiosity; Co-leads up to 12 children, ages 3-13; Ensures a fun and safe camp experience; Engages children in exploration & play; Supervises children in and out of water; Participates in all camp activities; Attends required staff training and meetings; Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Has an interest in nature-based, holistic, and emergent education; Possesses a positive attitude and a sense of humor; Is enthusiastic, reliable, creative, flexible, and calm; Minimum age of 15 years old and ability to pass a criminal background check; First Aid, Water Safety, CPR & AED certification, or willingness to obtain; Prior experience working with children and a love of nature; Comfortable speaking to and leading groups; Strong team player with excellent verbal communication skills; Good risk assessment and commitment to participant safety; Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for up to 4 hours, and hike on uneven terrain
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a seasonal summer position, with potential for year-round educator and/or coordinator position.
Pay range:
up to $25/hr.
Hours:
Depending upon the camp assigned, work hours will be either: 8:45am
  • 12:15pm 12:45pm
  • 4:15pm
  • Must be available for 3 or more weeks of camp Session One Week 2, Jul 13
  • 16 Week 3, Jul 20-23 Session 2 Week 1, Aug 3
