Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact by supporting students with diverse learning needs in a scenic Alaskan community. Multiple contract opportunities are available for certified Special Education Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year, providing vital educational services to students in both intensive needs and blended classroom settings.
Positions include:
Two intensive needs secondary positions (grades 9-post-secondary) in a self-contained environment serving a caseload of around 10 students. One intensive needs position at the middle school level (grades 6-8), also self-contained with a similar caseload. A unique dual-role opportunity at an elementary school, where you will split your time between special education and general education in a multi-grade classroom setting at a fly-in location.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Special Education Teacher certification required Experience working with intensive needs/self-contained populations preferred Comfortable teaching a range of grade levels (elementary, middle, and high school) Ability to collaborate with general education staff and support a diverse classroom Organized, adaptable, and strong in communication
Primary Responsibilities:
Deliver direct instruction tailored to each student's IEP goals Develop and implement individualized education plans and learning strategies Collaborate with teachers, service providers, and families to support student success Foster an inclusive, supportive classroom atmosphere for all learners Maintain accurate documentation and progress monitoring These contract positions offer a highly rewarding work environment and the chance to experience life in Alaska's breathtaking communities.
