1.0 FTE Special Education Teacher-Early Childhood Preschool Program @ Cottonwood Creek Elementary School Site specific information: Knowledge of the early childhood developmental continuum across skill areas and how it relates to planning and implementing activities to support a diverse range of learners; collaboration and coordination with families and school team members; knowledge and implementation of a wide range of instructional tools (e.g. positive behavioral strategies and supports, visual cues to support communication and social emotional skills; task analysis of foundational skills, etc.); implementation of district-approved curriculum, with accommodations/modifications, as appropriate; participation in professional development opportunities related to ECSE program needs, as available. The candidate will need to be endorsed in PK or early childhood special education, or have completed 6 credits of early childhood special education. A candidate that has the ability to start working on the 6 credits may be considered at the discretion of the Office of Student Support team and/or Principal.
Job Summary:
To implement appropriate individualized education plan as defined by the IEP Team, advocate for disabled students, provide quality services to eligible individuals based on current research and technology. Assist the Student Support Services in meeting audit and compliance standards, and promote positive attitudes about and toward Special Education.
Qualifications:
Alaska Teaching Certificate-Type A and Bachelor's degree, with an endorsement in PK/Early Childhood Special Education. Experience with trauma sensitive schools preferred. Essential Duties 1 Participates as an integral member of the IEP Team. 2 Assists the student to reach obtainable goals. 3 Interprets and promotes the program and its purposes to the school and community. 4 Assists in obtaining appropriate educational test data and other information necessary to the development of the
I.E.P. 5
Assists the Student Support Services in the development of district-wide policies and procedures. 6 Participates in parent conferences. 7 Participates in required staff development activities. 8 Assesses individual student progress and identifies appropriate program modifications. 9 Utilizes paraprofessional and volunteer assistance in the implementation of instructional programs. 10 Uses a wide range of teaching methods, materials, techniques, and equipment applicable to supporting various types of disabilities. 11 Schedules activities to maintain a positive learning environment and to provide access to the least restrictive environment. 12 Maintains current knowledge in their professional area including pertinent Federal Law and State Special Education regulations. 13 Assists in and cooperates with necessary modification and implementation of the screening and referral system as needed. 14 Keeps accurate records and files for all Special Education students in accordance with district procedures. 15 Monitors students' progress and updates IEP in accordance with district procedures. 16 Promotes positive public image of school district and positive public relations at all times. 17 Other duties as assigned by Principal/Student Support Administrator.
Knowledge:
Advanced knowledge of child development and early education theory and practices; safe and appropriate activities for children; an understanding of relevant legislation, polices and procedures related to preschool; Skills (position requirements at entry): The teacher must have the ability to effectively teach at the preschool level, including but not limited to age appropriate lesson plans, creative outdoor and indoor play, and assessments. The teacher must have a strong understanding of early childhood developmental stages. Excellent interpersonal/communication skills and strong documented collaboration skills are required. . The teacher must be an independent worker.
Qualifications:
Current Type A Alaska Certificate. Early Childhood endorsement preferred. Ability to meet the Alaska Reads Act requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force routinely, and or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to work on floor with students.
