Job Description
Overview We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and skilled full-time Private Tutor and Respite Provider to support an 11-year-old autistic child in her home. This role combines structured educational support with respite care, creating a safe, engaging, and supportive daily environment where the child can learn, grow, regulate, and participate meaningfully in home and community life. The employee will use a certified curriculum provided by the child's parents and will work closely with the child's mother, who is a certified Arizona teacher and autism specialist, to adapt lessons and activities to the child's learning style, communication needs, sensory profile, and developmental goals. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys individualized education, autism support, and child-centered care in a highly personalized setting. Weekly Schedule and Responsibilities The position is full-time, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The weekly schedule includes:
Educational Support:
25 hours per week, approximately 5 hours per dayRespite Care:
15 hours per week, approximately 3 hours per day Key Responsibilities Private Tutoring and Educational Support The tutor will provide daily educational instruction using a certified curriculum selected and provided by the child's parents.Responsibilities include:
Delivering approximately 5 hours of structured educational support each weekday Following the provided curriculum while adapting instruction to the child's needs Working with the child's mother to modify lessons, pacing, materials, and activities Supporting academic progress in a patient, encouraging, and flexible way Using visual supports, hands-on learning, repetition, and interest-based teaching strategies when appropriate Helping the child build confidence, independence, communication, and problem-solving skills Tracking daily progress, challenges, successes, and areas needing adjustment Creating a calm and supportive learning environment that respects the child's sensory and emotional needs Respite Care and Daily Support The respite portion of the role will provide care, supervision, and meaningful engagement outside of direct instruction.Responsibilities include:
Providing approximately 3 hours of respite support each weekday Supporting safe and positive participation in home routines Engaging the child in preferred activities, play, movement, life skills, and community-based practice as appropriate Supporting emotional regulation and transitions throughout the day Encouraging independence while maintaining appropriate supervision Helping with light child-related tasks connected to the child's daily care and learning environment Communicating clearly with parents about the child's day, needs, and progress Collaboration and Training The employee will work closely with the child's mother, a certified Arizona teacher and autism specialist, to ensure that instruction and support are individualized, effective, and responsive. The family will provide guidance on: Curriculum expectations Learning goals Communication strategies Sensory needs Behavioral and emotional support approaches Safety considerations Daily routines and preferences This role requires someone who can receive coaching, collaborate thoughtfully, and adjust strategies based on what is working best for the child. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is patient, dependable, emotionally regulated, creative, and genuinely interested in helping an autistic child thrive. Strong candidates may have experience in one or more of the following areas: Autism support Special education Homeschooling or private tutoring Behavioral therapy or developmental support Respite care Childcare for children with disabilities Speech, occupational therapy, education, psychology, or related fields Required Qualifications Experience working with autistic children, neurodivergent children, or children with developmental disabilities Ability to work Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Strong communication skills Reliability, patience, and professionalism Willingness to follow a parent-provided curriculum and collaborate with the child's mother Ability to support both structured learning and daily care routines Comfort working in a private home environment Preferred Qualifications Experience with individualized instruction or one-on-one teaching Background in special education, tutoring, ABA, habilitation, respite, occupational therapy support, speech support, or related services Familiarity with visual supports, sensory regulation, communication supports, or adaptive learning strategies CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain Fingerprint clearance card or willingness to obtain Experience supporting children with limited verbal communication, anxiety, sensory needs, or behavioral regulation challenges Compensation Pay is $25 to $35 per hour , depending on experience, training, and qualifications.
