CAPC Executive DirectorINTRODUCTION
The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Contra Costa County (CAPC) is a nonprofit, tax exempt 501 (c) 3 organization. CAPC 's mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect in Contra Costa by raising community awareness, influencing public policy, educating the community and providing resources and support programs to families.JOB SUMMARY
The Child Safety Awareness Educator will be responsible for providing the Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe (SUBS) curriculum to 1st thru 8th grade students in select Contra Costa County schools. Educators will be responsible for delivering developmentally, age appropriate SUBS safety lessons in the classroom to students and also provide informational forums to district staff and parents. The Child Safety Educator will utilize the SUBS research based, comprehensive prevention curriculum designed to help children recognize safe and unsafe situations at school, home, online and in the community with a focus on child abuse prevention, sexual harassment prevention, bullying prevention and technology safety.SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE
Work with CAPC Child Safety staff, district staff, teachers, and CAPC Executive Director on development, implementation and evaluation of the SUBS program. Schedule and provide age appropriate classroom lessons to children covering child abuse prevention, sexual harassment prevention, bullying prevention and technology safety strategies. Provide presentations to district staff and teachers on the child safety curriculum upon request Provide community forums to educate district parents about the SUBS curriculum and child safety strategies upon request. Prepare and distribute curriculum, educational materials and handouts. Work with district school staff, Lead Child Safety Educator and CAPC Executive Director on program evaluation. Report suspected child abuse when appropriate. Attend trainings on mandated reporting and on related child safety and child abuse prevention topics. Track and manage program outcomes and database. Present program outcomes/reports to district staff upon request. Work collaboratively with CAPC staff on providing additional programs and services to the community. Complete the National Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe facilitator training. All other duties as assigned.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
B.A. and/ or 3 years of experience in the field of education, child development or social services. Demonstrate ability to effectively relate to and communicate with children, youth and adults in an educational environment. Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, school administrators and community members. Classroom management skills a plus. Demonstrate ability to discuss sensitive topics with children, youth and adults. Basic computer skills, word processing and internet search skills. Excellent public speaking and training skills. Excellent written and communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Ability to work individually and as a team member. Demonstrate sound judgement. Dependable transportation. Self-starter/ detail oriented. CA Driver's License, vehicle insurance and fingerprint clearance. TB clearance required.
