The mission of the Corona-Norco Family YMCA is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
GENERAL FUNCTION
This position is made available by the Corona-Norco Family YMCA through the State of California Department of Education Grant Program. This grant is issued for one year and must be renewed each year. Individual is responsible for the general supervision and management for a classroom where ratio is maintained at one Teacher for every 8 children between the ages of 2-1/2 years to 5 years of age. Along with the presence and assistance of two Teacher's Aides, the State Preschool Teacher is responsible for a class of up to twenty-four students. Must possess sensitivity and maturity with the ability to relate well with children and adults. Skills and knowledge needed to perform this function include arts & crafts, non-competitive games and physical fitness.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must meet the following qualifications: Maintain a current Teacher's Permit applicable to the position; maintain all required licensing documents and maintain current First Aid/CPR and Health & Safety Course. Must be at least eighteen years of age. Must have an understanding and working knowledge of Title 5 and Title 22. High School Graduate or General Equivalency Diploma. Must be professionally prepared as a teacher of preschool children with emphasis on early childhood education and development. Qualified to meet all requirements of the licensing agency. Must possess sensitivity and maturity with the ability to relate well with both children and adults. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. Must possess the willingness, maturity and interpersonal skills and ability to demonstrate leadership and stability for program continuity. Responsible for the supervision of children and implementing program activities. Attendance and full participation at all required staff and training meetings. MMR, DTaP, Influenza (employee may provide a written waiver of the influenza immunization).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Daily records and Developmental Profile for all children are current and up to date. 2. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines. 3. Ensures visual supervision of children at all times. 4. Supervises children, staff and all classroom activities. 5. Conducts parent conferences and maintains positive relationship and effective communication with parents. 6. Engages parents as volunteers as appropriate. 7. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans for the Preschool Program. 8. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluation of each child. 9. Maintains Program Site including equipment 10. Consistently adheres to YMCA work rules and procedures to complete all assigned tasks and job duties in an efficient, timely and positive manner. 11. Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities. 12. Consistently demonstrates behavior that is professional, inclusive and accepting to children, parents and staff regardless of gender, age, race, religion or ethnicity. 13. Is cooperative, accessible and an active member of the YMCA staff. 14. Adheres to YMCA, Child Development and State Licensing policies and procedures at all times. 15. Ensures State Licensing and staff/child ratios requirements are maintained at all times. 16. Responds to parent concerns and comments in a timely and professional manner and communicates parent concerns and issues with the Program Director. 17. Adheres to the Personal Standards Policy as discussed in the Employee Policy and Procedures Manual. 18. Daily schedule is posted and followed. Teachable moments are recognized. 19. Assists the Site Supervisor by providing a verbal overview of the program to visitors. 20. Implements curriculum using age appropriate education, principles and practices. 21. Ensures adequate supplies are available for activities. 22. Gears the program to the needs of individual style and pace of leaning. 23. Takes into consideration the needs of each child on an individual basis relative to his/her cultural and socio-economic background. 24. Implements a variety of daily activities to include individual choice activities and adult/child interactions. 25. A "rainy day plan" is ready as needed.
DAILY RECORDS
1. Incident/Ouch reports are given to immediate supervisor the same day to be properly filed. 2. Sign-in/Sign-out Sheets are completed daily and in ink 3. Attendance is recorded daily.
SITE HEALTH & SAFETY
Assumes an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities with the staff. Checks photo identification when any child is signed out by someone not known to staff. Is knowledgeable of all employee policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Policies and Procedures Manual and official memos.

badge is always worn while on duty and badge must be visible. Ensures that
YMCA I.D.
badges are worn by staff and volunteers. Ensures safety rules are followed at all times. Knowledge of location of first aid kits. Safety gloves must be worn when administering first-aid. Children must be under direct supervision at all times. All cleaning supplies must be stored in a secure area out of children's reach. All medications are in original containers and in a locked box. (
Note:
An aide should not handle medications.) Complete knowledge and adherence to the Injury, Illness and Prevention Program (IIPP). Ensures employees adhere to safety procedures and practices and to the IIPP. Knowledge of procedures for earthquake and fire drills. Knowledge of and adherence to the emergency evacuation route. Ensures trashcans have a lid and liner. Ensures supplies are labeled and properly organized. Responds to routine situations with good judgment and flexibility. Informs Site supervisor of damaged equipment and items needed for the classroom.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Greets all staff, children, parents, and staff in a friendly and caring manner on a consistent basis (including telephone). Maintains open communication with everyone. Is well-informed and able to promote other YMCA programs. Communicates clearly and displays a professional and caring demeanor when speaking with children, parents, staff and school employees.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position is not considered light duty. Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds; be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, lean, stretch, squat, kneel and be in good physical health. Mustbe able to be able to stand for extended periods of time Ability to lift children as needed, interact and direct play. Able to communicate with young children by making eye-to-eye contact at their level and participate in housekeeping responsibilities. Use hands and fingers to fill out required forms on regular basis. Ability to see at normal distance and hear normal conversation and sounds.
SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT
First-Aid and CPR and Health & Safety certifications must be current. Absolutely no contact with students or program staff outside of the YMCA either in person, via social media, text, online etc. Child-care services or caring for children who are enrolled or were enrolled in the program is prohibited.
Note:
An exception may be made when an enrolled child is a family member of an employee. These requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by the CEO/Organizational Leader. Strict adherence to the Electronica and Social Media Policy as described in the Employee Policies and Procedures Manual. Questions and/or inquiries must be brought to the attention of the Associate Executive Director. Headphones and/or earbuds must not be worn by any employee while on duty. No employee may accept any type of financial, cash gift or payment from any parent or guardian.
END RESULT
Parent satisfaction is high. Classroom/Program areas and equipment is safe, clean and well-maintained. Activities are well-organized and meet participants' needs and Y standards. Relationship with the Corona-Norco Family YMCA remains employment at-will and may be terminated with or without cause and without or without advance notice at any time by the employee or the employer.
