Job Description

EMIT Learning is seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher for an onsite contract position in Half Moon Bay, California , for the 2026-2027 school year . The Special Education Teacher will provide specialized instruction and academic support to elementary students with diverse learning needs in a school setting. Responsibilities include developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), adapting curriculum and instructional materials, monitoring student progress, maintaining accurate documentation, collaborating with related service providers and school staff, and supporting students with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum and with developmental delays.

30-40 hours per week (standard school hours)

Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to meet the unique academic, developmental, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities, including students on the autism spectrum and those with developmental delays. Adapt instructional materials, curriculum, and classroom activities using effective instructional strategies and educational technology to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. Develop and implement IEPs while monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate and timely documentation. Collaborate closely with speech therapists, behavioral health specialists, parents, general education teachers, and other professionals to support student progress through team-based planning and intervention. Manage classroom behavior effectively using positive behavior management techniques and behavioral therapy strategies to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. Provide individualized and small-group instruction based on student needs and IEP goals. Support students in developing academic, social, communication, and functional skills within the school environment. Qualifications Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential in Mild/Moderate . School-based special education experience is preferred. Experience working with elementary-age students with disabilities is preferred. Experience supporting students with autism spectrum disorders and developmental delays is highly desirable. Experience with IEP development, specialized instruction, progress monitoring, curriculum adaptation, and classroom behavior management is preferred. Strong understanding of child development and special education instructional strategies.
