TITLE:

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR - EDUCATIONAL THERAPIST SUMMARY

The Educational Therapist provides remedial and/or compensatory instruction to students who may be diagnosed with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, or remedial learning needs. The Educational Therapist also assesses students' educational needs, provides direct services to the student to meet those needs, provides consultation with other professionals and the student's family, and writes progress reports at established intervals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

) : 1. Determines student needs based on assessment provided by the student's school or outside agencies. Conducts formal and/or informal assessment necessary to develop an appropriate diagnostic-prescriptive program. 2. Develops goals and objectives by selecting and/or developing curriculum and instructional materials that are remedial and/or compensatory and support the student's total educational therapeutic program. 3. Provides direct services to meet the established goals and objectives as written in the Intake Report, district IEP, and/or Related Service Plan. 4. Evaluates and documents student progress through written progress reports/IEPs, as appropriate. 5. Participates in IEP meetings, as necessary. 6. Maintains written attendance records, provides accurate and timely scheduling information, and maintains an inventory of supplies. 7. Coordinates scheduling with the Educational Therapy Coordinator. Responsible to report any schedule changes/cancellations to the Educational Therapy Coordinator by 10:00 a.m. 8. Maintains a professional relationship with parents and students, in accordance with the highest ethical and professional standards and department procedures. 9. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

(EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS): Bachelor's degree. Masters' degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Learning Disability, or Educational Therapy preferred. Two to four years full-time teaching experience with special education students as a Special Day Class Teacher, Resource Specialist, or Educational Therapist. Experience with diagnostic prescriptive teaching, informal and formal assessment techniques and test-interpretation. Demonstrated professional report writing skills including written behavioral goals and objectives. Ability to follow and meet deadlines for departmental reports, service/attendance records and other paperwork with minimal supervision.

CREDENTIALS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES

Must have and maintain a valid California credential in Regular Education Teaching and Preliminary Learning Handicapped Specialist Teaching, or Regular Education Credential and a Resource Specialist Certificate of Competency.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret documents such as professional journals, policies and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in a team environment as well as with students, parents, and other professionals within and outside the Frostig School.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Ability to effectively use the internet for research and communication.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, mean, mode, and median in practical solutions.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logic to a wide range of practical problems. Ability to define, solve problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. The contractor will provide their own Worker's Compensation and Liability Insurance. A copy of that certificate is to be presented to the Frostig School by the contractor.

Pay:

From $70.00 per hour Expected hours: 8.0 per week
