A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

ECSE, Moderate-Severe, or Extensive Support Needs (ESN) Job Responsibilities Develop and implement individualized lesson plans aligned with each student's IEP, goals, accommodations, and specific learning needs . Provide specialized instruction and appropriate learning activities for students with disabilities in an early childhood setting. Support students' academic, developmental, communication, social-emotional, and functional needs. Implement effective behavior management and positive behavior support strategies to promote student engagement and a safe classroom environment. Provide early intervention and individualized support to students requiring additional assistance with learning and development. Monitor, document, and evaluate student progress toward IEP goals and maintain accurate educational records. Collaborate with parents, school staff, related service providers, and other members of the student's educational team. Participate in IEP meetings , parent conferences, staff meetings, and other school-related activities as required. Adapt instructional materials, classroom activities, and teaching strategies to meet individual student needs. Establish a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student independence and participation. Maintain appropriate documentation regarding student performance, behavior, attendance, and progress. Follow school policies, special education regulations, and applicable state and federal requirements. Participate in ongoing professional development and stay current with evidence-based practices in special education, early childhood education, behavioral support, and related areas. Qualifications Valid California credential/certification in ECSE, Moderate-Severe, or Extensive Support Needs (ESN) . Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an early childhood or school-based special education setting . Strong understanding of IEP implementation and individualized instruction. Knowledge of positive behavior support and classroom behavior management strategies. Strong communication, organization, documentation, and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.
