What they do
A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description
Your work will include:
- Developing and implementing IEPs with meaningful, measurable goals.
- Adapting instruction to students' strengths, interests, preferences, and support needs.
- Teaching functional academics, communication, social skills, and daily living skills.
- Supporting emotional, sensory, and behavioral regulation with guidance from the multidisciplinary team.
- Incorporating student choice and assent into a respectful, responsive classroom.
- Using observations and progress data to refine instruction and celebrate growth.
- Helping students apply skills through community outings and everyday experiences.
- Guiding classroom support staff and maintaining consistent communication with families. What you'll bring
