Human Services Association (HSA) is a private nonprofit agency whose principal mission is to provide families with compassionate and comprehensive care to promote wellness and build strong communities. HSA was founded in Bell Gardens in 1940 and today, HSA serves over 20,000 clients annually on a non-sectarian basis with a range of services that addresses the unique and shared needs of clients of all ages.
Program Overview:
Our Early Childhood Education Department provides services to 600 children over three distinct programs (Early Head Start, Head Start and State Preschool) at ten school sites. The California State Preschool Program provides a pre-school experience for children ages 3 to 5 in the cities of South Gate and Huntington Park. The Early Head Start Program is a federally funded program that provides a home based and center based program for pregnant women and children ages 0-3 that reside in zip codes of 90201 and 90280. The Head Start Program offers a comprehensive child development program for low-income preschoolers ages three to five years old that reside in zip code 90280.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Child Development Supervisor, the Teacher, is responsible for the implementation of program curriculum and school readiness activities. Provides direct supervision of children and ensures children's health & safety at all times. Ensures all program activities in all service areas and ensure the program meets or exceeds funding source requirements based on the performance standards, Title 22, and title V regulations. Adheres and complies with program regulations and other relevant regulations in all ECE programs.
Duties And Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum & Instruction Plan and implement activities aligned with school readiness goals using High/Scope Curriculum. Develop lesson plans and learning goals. Supervise and coordinate curriculum activities. Conduct and coordinate small and large group activities. Foster a collaborative learning environment using Conscious Discipline. Encourage exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, and choice-making. Follow consistent schedules with varied learning experiences. Actively participate in all planned activities. Record observations using Learning Genie. Ensure culturally sensitive, anti-biased curriculum. Complete screenings (ASQ-3,
ASQ:
SE), DRDP 2015, and evaluations. 2. Child Supervision & Support Provide ongoing supervision of indoor/outdoor areas (sight & sound). Arrange and supervise educational activities, including mealtimes. Conduct daily health checks and document findings. Assist with toileting and hygiene needs. Ensure classroom cleanliness and safety. Implement nutrition and health programs. Participate in emergency drills (fire, earthquake, lockdown). Address immediate center crises as needed. 3. Child Development & Special Needs Support children's physical, emotional, and developmental needs. Work with Disabilities staff to support children with

needs. Support

implementation in instruction and classroom routines. Track student progress and intervene as needed. Develop goals and objectives for individual children. 4. Family & Community Engagement Communicate respectfully and sensitively with families. Conduct parent conferences and maintain records. Coordinate parent volunteers and documentation. Maintain confidentiality of all family and staff information. Represent HSA at community and professional functions. Participate in recruitment and community events (including nights/weekends). 5. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate child records, attendance, and meal counts. Complete lesson plans, observations, and health/safety documentation. Ensure compliance with licensing, Head Start, and program standards. Identify and report suspected child abuse (Mandated Reporter Guidelines). 6. Professionalism & Team Collaboration Report to work on time and maintain good attendance. Participate positively in all program activities. Model the Standard of Conduct Policy. Collaborate with the agency team and promote HSA's mission. Attend meetings, trainings, and pursue professional development. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel for training. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or Department Director.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
At least Two (2) years experience with children, ages 0-5, in a group care setting (350) days of three hours or within four years, must include at least 100 days of supervising adults in a child care and development program. Knowledge in Child growth and development and Developmentally Appropriate Practice. Ability to plan, organize and supervise a child development center. Principles of Supervision, Training and Performance Evaluation. Knowledgeable in the implementation of education program policies and procedures. Ability to train and supervise associate teachers and volunteers. Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds, and those with disabilities and special needs. Ability to keep accurate records and in a timely manner. Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals. Organized and able to successfully meet daily objectives; have the ability to lead team atmosphere; have mediation and negotiation skills; possess effective conflict resolution skills. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing using correct English (spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation). Education And Experience:
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in related field with 24 units of ECE including 3 Infant/Toddler Units, and possession of an Associate Teacher Permit or higher. Minimum one (1) year of experience working with infants and toddlers. Knowledge and experience working with Head Start Performance Standards, Title V, Title 22, CACFP Regulations and other State and Federal Regulations OR Associate of Art (AA) degree in Early Childhood Education (including 3 Infant/Toddler Units) or a related field, preferred Minimum one (1) year of experience working with infants and toddlers. State and Federal Regulations Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Possess an Associate Teacher Permit or higher from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Occasional driving is required. Must provide own vehicle, valid California Driver's License and proof of full insurance coverage. First Aid certification, Child CPR certification.

Compensation:
In accordance with California law, the expected pay range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
