Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a fulfilling opportunity dedicated to shaping the future of students with unique learning needs. This contract position is ideal if you're passionate about making a difference in special education, especially in a dynamic middle school setting. Set in a supportive environment, you'll work full-time (37.5 hours per week) with a self-contained Moderate - Severe Special Day Class, guiding students as they develop new skills and reach important milestones.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Special Education teaching credential (or eligibility to obtain one) Experience working with moderate to severe special needs populations Strong knowledge of individualized instruction and IEP development Excellent communication and collaborative skills for working with parents, staff, and related service providers Flexibility and adaptability within diverse learning environments Positive attitude, creativity, and patience
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement effective, individualized lesson plans tailored to each student's unique needs Foster a caring, structured classroom, encouraging social, emotional, and academic growth Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service staff Regularly communicate student progress and needs with families and IEP teams Maintain accurate records, assessments, and compliance with special education law and guidelines Adapt instructional materials and strategies to a diverse range of student abilities Participate in professional development and school community activities Enjoy the enriching experience of supporting middle schoolers as a travel educator in the beautiful Avery area.
