A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

(Health Savings Account) Signing Bonus for
Special Education:
The district will pay a $7,000 signing bonus to any new hire who fills a vacancy in Special Education in the 2026/27 academic year.
  • This supersedes and replaces the current $2,500 signing bonus.
  • One-half of the stipend will be paid at the end of the lst semester or equivalent days the employee is employed by PVUSD.
  • The second half of the stipend will be paid at the beginning of the second year if the teacher is employed with PVUSD.
  • The stipend will be pro-rated for late hires and by FTE.
  • Teachers hired on a STSP, PIP, or Waiver will be paid the full amount of the signing bonus at the beginning of their Internship year.
  • If a teacher earns their intern credential mid-year, the full stipend amount will be paid at the beginning of the subsequent year. Comments and Other Information PVUSD offers the following incentives:
