Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract An opportunity exists for an experienced Elementary Special Education Teacher to provide coverage for a maternity leave from early May through June, and again from September through October. This contract position is based in West Hartford, CT, within a school setting, working specifically with 3rd-5th grade students in a behavioral classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver individualized and group instruction tailored to students with special education needs in grades 3 to 5. Implement behavior intervention plans to support classroom management and student success. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including support staff and families, to foster a supportive learning environment. Maintain accurate records of student progress and adapt teaching strategies to meet evolving needs. Comply with all state and federal special education regulations and guidelines.
Qualifications:
Valid Connecticut Special Education (SPED) teaching license required; Dual Special Education and General Education certification (DSAP) not accepted. Prior experience working with elementary students, ideally in behavioral classrooms. Strong skills in behavior management and individualized education program (IEP) development. Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents. Commitment to creating an inclusive, positive learning atmosphere.
Location:
West Hartford, CT (School setting) This position offers an exciting chance to support students requiring specialized educational and behavioral assistance during a key transitional period. Candidates should be ready to begin in early May and return in September for continued coverage through October.
