Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a real difference in students' lives by providing specialized instruction as a 4th grade ELA Special Education Teacher for the upcoming 26/27 school year. This rewarding contract role focuses on co-teaching/resource support, with an approximate 80/20 instructional split—allowing you to collaborate closely with general education teachers and help diverse learners thrive. The position is conveniently located near Washington, DC, with a schedule running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., totaling 40 hours each week.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Special Education Teaching license (open to out-of-state credentials; DMV area candidates especially encouraged to apply) Experience working in a 4th grade or upper elementary classroom, preferably in ELA Proficiency with IEPs and differentiated instruction strategies Collaborative mindset for co-teaching across inclusion and resource settings Strong communication skills for engaging with students, staff, and families
Primary Responsibilities:
Deliver ELA instruction to 4th grade students with varying educational needs Collaborate in an 80/20 split between general education inclusion and dedicated special education resource time Develop, implement, and update IEPs tailored to students' needs Assist with lesson planning, classroom management, and progress monitoring Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and families to support student growth This position offers an engaging school environment and valuable professional experience, ideal for passionate educators eager to impact student success.
