PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Roving Teacher is to perform the classroom duties of an absent teacher on a daily basis during the school year. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain a broad range of experience with multiple subject areas, diverse student populations and instructional approaches. The Roving Teacher position is a certified contract position paid on the teacher salary schedule. This is a one year grant postion.

JOB DUTIES

The Roving Teacher's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Implementing course of study as prepared by Classroom Teacher, Building Administrator; Preparing/Planning course of study if requested by Building Administrator; Managing the classroom so that curriculum guidelines/requirements are fulfilled; Lecturing, demonstrating, and using appropriate teaching aids to present subject matter to the students as directed by the Classroom Teacher or Building Administrator; Creating, preparing, administering &/or correcting assignments & tests; Recording grades and attendance; Assisting as directed by the building administration (Including clerical, cafeteria, bus duty, etc.); Maintaining and respecting confidentiality of student and school personnel information; Maintaining discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies; Ensuring adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students; Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; Reporting to office upon arrival at school; checking mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requesting clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary; Reporting all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible; Implementing lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate; Organizing students for effective instruction; Dismissing all students from the classroom before leaving the building; Returning instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place; Complying with and supporting school and district regulations and policies; Modeling non-discriminatory practices in all activities; Performing other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/district policies and practices. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile Certification/License:

Kansas State Certification as an Elementary Teacher Kansas State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred. Education Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Experience Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
