Job Description

Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle and High School Special Education Teacher to join our dynamic educational team. In this role, you will play a vital part in creating an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment for students with diverse needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism, and other learning challenges. Your expertise in curriculum development, behavior management, and classroom management will help foster academic growth and social-emotional development for every student. Responsibilities Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs, ensuring compliance with educational standards and legal requirements. Design and deliver engaging lessons across subjects such as literacy education, math (including algebra and calculus), physical education, creative writing, and library services. Utilize learning technology and applied behavior analysis techniques to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. Manage classroom behavior through effective behavior management strategies and classroom management techniques to create a safe and positive environment. Collaborate with colleagues, therapists, parents, and support staff to coordinate services such as behavioral therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. Conduct assessments using standardized testing methods to monitor progress and adapt instructional approaches accordingly. Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, IEP goals, and communication logs following the Chicago Manual of Style or AP style guidelines for documentation. Provide tutoring and academic advising to support students' individual growth in core subjects like math, literacy, and social skills development. Mentor new teachers or teaching assistants by sharing best practices in special education methodologies such as Montessori or creative writing techniques. Engage in ongoing professional development related to special education laws, learning technology advancements, autism spectrum disorder strategies, and curriculum development. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Valid teaching certification for middle or high school special education; additional endorsements in deaf education or autism spectrum disorder are advantageous. Proven classroom experience working with students with disabilities across diverse settings including private schools or public school systems. Strong knowledge of IEP development, behavioral therapy techniques (including applied behavior analysis), and classroom management strategies. Familiarity with standardized testing procedures and curriculum standards such as AP style or Chicago Manual of Style for documentation purposes. Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, families, colleagues, and support professionals. Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum content in areas like algebra, calculus, literacy education, creative writing, physical education, and library services. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder is highly desirable.
