Job Description
POSITION GOAL
To implement, enrich, and support the educational program of the school by providing expert management, training, and technical consultation in the use of a school media center and related educational technology to improve the delivery and effectiveness of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
- Establish annual and long-range goals correlated to the School Improvement Plan in conjunction with the Media Advisory Committee. 2.
- Provide access to a variety of print, digital, and physical resources. 3.
- According to Board Policy, participate in the selection, acquisition, and organization of a collection of print and digital resources that support the school's curriculum.
4. Teach information literacy skills to students and staff. 5. Collaborate with teachers to support student learning. 6. Provide guidance and support to students in research projects. 7. Maintain the library media center facilities and equipment. 8.
- Manage and maintain records of checked out resources to staff and students including student computer check ins, check outs, and repair requests. 9.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with parents, staff, students, and the community. 10.
- Assure confidentiality of any personally identifiable data. 11.
- Remain knowledgeable of district, state, and federal laws and policies. 12. Compile and analyze media center usage data. 13.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, individual supervisory sessions, workshops, and training sessions as needed. 14.
- Provide support to school staff with print/digital curriculum and instruction strategies, materials, and policies related to media center resources and educational software and services. 15.
- Collaborate and maintain frequent contact with district support personnel. 16.
- Support the implementation of the current Florida State standards and the District Strategic Plan. 17.
- Collaborate with professional learning communities to identify and incorporate new and innovative best practices in media services and educational technology aligned with ISTE standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in an educational field or the equivalent as defined by Florida Administrative Code (FAC) 6A-1.0503 Certified or is eligible to be certified by the State of Florida as an Educational Media Specialist Advanced knowledge of educational media or library science
REQUIRED SKILLS
Strong knowledge of current research on effective operations of a school media center Strong knowledge of information literacy Ability to select, organize, maintain, and catalog a wide variety of print and digital materials for instructional and recreational purposes Ability to organize and operate a media center so that it can be used to support the curriculum and instruction of the school Ability to integrate curriculum with effective educational technology tools Strong planning, organizing, motivating, and coordinating skills Demonstrates ability to perform administrative tasks efficiently and within regulatory scope Expertise in written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with all stakeholders and to enhance collaborative decision-making Demonstrates strong technology skills and willingness to continue education to keep up to date on media service methods, information databases, and educational technology tools Demonstrates effective teaching practices, use of adaptive technology, and behavior/classroom management Ability to plan and coordinate large multi-group presentations for all populations Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with professional staff, school community, school advisory council, parent organizations, governmental agencies, community businesses, parents, and service agencies Ability to implement and apply policies, rules, laws, and regulations to existing conditions as they pertain to media centers
