Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Key Responsibilities Job Description Instruction and Curriculum Development:

Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning. Develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives. Use a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning and cater to the diverse needs of students.

Classroom Management:

Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

Assess and document student progress through observations, assessments, and conferences. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents. Identify students' learning needs and adapt teaching methods to meet these needs.

Parental and Community Engagement:

Communicate regularly with parents about their child's progress and needs. Participate in school community events and foster a strong sense of community within the classroom.

Professional Development:

Stay updated with current educational trends and best practices. Attend and contribute to staff meetings and professional development sessions.

Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with other teachers, support staff, and school leadership.
