- Part-time Hamilton Mill Christian Church is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Special Needs Coordinator to help create a welcoming, safe, and Christ-centered environment for children with special needs.
This individual will work alongside families, volunteers, and Children's Ministry staff to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn about Jesus, build relationships, and fully participate in ministry activities. The Special Needs Coordinator will provide support, accommodations, and individualized care for children with varying developmental, physical, emotional, and behavioral needs while helping equip volunteers to serve these children effectively. - 7:10 PM (as needed) ResponsibilitiesChild Support & Care Provide direct support for children with special needs during Children's Ministry programming.
Assist children in participating in Bible lessons, worship, activities, crafts, and group interactions. Implement individualized accommodations and strategies to help children succeed. Monitor children's safety and well-being while participating in ministry activities. Build positive, trusting relationships with children and their families. Family Partnership Communicate regularly with parents regarding their child's needs and successes. Gather information about accommodations, triggers, sensory needs, and learning styles. Support families by helping create a welcoming and inclusive ministry environment. Volunteer Support Assist in training and equipping Children's Ministry volunteers to effectively serve children with special needs. Provide guidance and support to classroom teachers and assistants when accommodations are needed. Help identify and recruit potential Special Needs Buddies or volunteers when necessary. Ministry Collaboration Work closely with the Children's Ministry Director to develop and maintain Special Needs Ministry procedures and best practices. Maintain appropriate documentation regarding accommodations and support plans. Participate in Children's Ministry meetings and training opportunities as requested. Qualifications A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Agreement with the mission and values of Hamilton Mill Christian Church. Previous experience working with children who have special needs, developmental disabilities, behavioral challenges, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, sensory processing differences, or other exceptionalities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Patient, compassionate, flexible, and encouraging demeanor. Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in challenging situations. Ability to work collaboratively with families, volunteers, and church staff. Must successfully complete all required background checks and child protection training. Preferred Qualifications Educational background or professional experience in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Behavioral Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or a related field. Experience developing accommodations or individualized support plans. Experience working in church ministry or volunteer environments. Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout classrooms and ministry spaces. Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and actively engage with children. Ability to assist children with age-appropriate activities and transitions.
