Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a difference in the lives of young learners by facilitating meaningful growth for students in a highly supportive environment. Help shape a classroom culture at the elementary level where every student—especially those with diverse and specialized needs—can thrive and reach their full potential.
Key Qualifications:
State certification in Special Education required Experience working with elementary-aged children, particularly in grades 1-2, preferred Understanding of cross-categorical programming and International Educational Plans (IEPs) Strong ability to implement structured, individualized, standards-based instruction Familiarity with supports for students with autism and those with a range of academic, behavioral, communication, and adaptive needs Effective collaboration skills and the ability to partner with program aides, 1:1 staff, and related service providers
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide cross-categorical special education instruction to students in grades 1-2, adapting lessons to support both grade-level standards and IEP goals Incorporate structured teaching methodologies, visual schedules, sensory tools, and communication supports in your daily practice Develop and implement behavioral and social-emotional interventions Deliver individualized instruction in both group and one-on-one settings, ensuring that each child's unique needs are addressed Work closely with program aides and additional staff to maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment Regularly assess and document student progress, communicating effectively with staff and families Collaborate with related service providers and school professionals throughout the instructional day This contract role offers the opportunity to work with an engaged, collaborative staff dedicated to student success.
