A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Situated close to Benton, IL, this opportunity allows you to impact students in kindergarten through 4th grade within a specialized communication disorder classroom, working with a small, focused caseload of just 10 students. Your expertise will shape individualized educational experiences, promote growth, and foster inclusion in a supportive educational environment. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, providing you with consistency and the chance to build strong relationships with your students and colleagues.
Qualifications and Skills:
Valid Illinois LBS1 credential/certification required Experience or interest in working with elementary-aged students (K-4th grade) Strong understanding of communication disorders Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and support staff Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills Adaptability, creativity, and a commitment to student success
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs Provide specialized instruction and interventions within small group and one-on-one settings Collaborate with related service providers, administrators, and families Track and report on student progress in accordance with all requirements Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom atmosphere Support students' social, emotional, and academic development
