Job Description
Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding educational environment supporting middle school students in an Intensive Communications Program this upcoming school year. This full-time contract position runs from August 14 through November 1 and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while collaborating closely with a dedicated team. As an integral member of the classroom, you will work with a group of 9 students, each following a curriculum focused on functional and life skills. The setting serves students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities, enabling you to foster growth and independence. Two experienced paraprofessionals will be in the classroom, ensuring additional support and collaboration. Ideal candidates have prior experience supporting students with Autism or working in functional/life skills-based programs. Familiarity with the Unique Learning System and functional skills curriculum—including hands-on activities like kitchen and laundry practice, as well as community-based field trips—will help you thrive in this environment.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Valid LBS1 and PEL credentials (please attach a screenshot of your license, adding a blank page to your resume) Prior experience working with students with Autism or in intensive/functional skills settings is highly preferred Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills Commitment to nurturing student growth in both academic and life skillsKey Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging instruction using the Unique Learning System and functional skills curriculum Support and document individual student progress Coordinate with paraprofessionals and special education staff Foster an inclusive, positive, and supportive classroom atmosphere Guide students during on-campus and community-based activities Embrace the chance to help students gain key life skills and confidence in a collaborative, supportive setting.
