Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make an immediate impact in a dynamic school setting dedicated to helping every child succeed. This contract opportunity supports 4th-grade students in a cross-categorical special education classroom, providing a rich and collaborative environment. As a Special Education Teacher, you will deliver instruction tailored to meet diverse academic, behavioral, communication, adaptive, and functional needs. Work alongside caring aides and related service providers to ensure students receive the guidance they need for holistic growth.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Special Education Teacher certification (Illinois PEL with LBS1 endorsement, or equivalent) Experience or strong interest in cross-categorical instructional programming Proven ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Expertise in modifying curriculum and delivering instruction aligned to grade-level standards while targeting individualized student goals Knowledge of specialized teaching strategies, positive behavior supports, and sensory regulation techniques Strong collaborative skills for working with aides, therapists, and school support teams Exceptional communication and documentation abilities
Primary Responsibilities:
Plan and implement engaging, differentiated instruction for 4th-grade students with varied needs Monitor progress and update IEP goals, ensuring instruction matches each student's needs and strengths Provide structured and visual teaching supports, behavioral interventions, and communication strategies Adapt classroom activities to promote academic, functional, and social-emotional growth Collaborate closely with support staff, service providers, and families to ensure consistent, high-quality support throughout the school day Create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe learning environment Experience a supportive teaching atmosphere where your expertise is valued and your professional growth is encouraged.
