Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Passionate about making a difference in the lives of young learners? An exciting contract position is available for an experienced Special Education Teacher to serve 1st and 2nd graders at the elementary level. This opportunity involves delivering cross-categorical instructional programming, primarily supporting students with a range of academic, behavioral, communication, adaptive, and functional needs—including a higher proportion identified with autism. As a key figure in a collaborative classroom environment, you'll tailor instruction to align with grade-level standards while prioritizing individualized IEP goals and specialized intervention plans. The role emphasizes the integration of structured schedules, visual and sensory supports, behavioral and social-emotional interventions, and daily coordination with related service providers. Additional support comes from a dedicated program aide and 1:1 staff as needed, ensuring every student's needs are met thoroughly.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
Valid Illinois Special Education Teaching License required Experience teaching in cross-categorical or autism support settings preferred Background working with IEP development and implementation Strong skills in differentiated instruction and meeting diverse learning needs Ability to apply behavioral and communication interventions Strong collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams Effective communicator with students, staff, and families
Expected Responsibilities:
