Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a fulfilling role guiding high school students as a Special Education Teacher in an onsite, full-time position for the 2026/2027 school year. This contract opportunity is ideal for an educator who thrives in both self-contained and co-teaching environments, and values collaboration with a dynamic special education team. As part of this high school setting, you will provide specialized academic support tailored to the diverse needs of students, ensuring each learner can find success in core classes such as English Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as Social Studies and Science. Your expertise will help shape individualized education plans, maintain clear progress records, and foster a welcoming, inclusive classroom community.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver direct instruction and support in a self-contained classroom, working with a caseload of approximately 7-9 students. Collaborate in co-taught classroom environments, providing targeted assistance to an additional group of 7-9 students. Partner closely with another Special Education Teacher for ongoing program development and shared student support. Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and accommodations for assigned students. Maintain accurate documentation and progress monitoring for student growth. Work collaboratively with general education staff, administrators, multidisciplinary teams, and families.
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
Active Illinois LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I) License required. High school special education experience preferred. Strong understanding of IEP processes from creation to implementation. Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational abilities.
