Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into an impactful role supporting high school students by providing specialized instruction and academic guidance in a dynamic educational environment. This full-time, onsite opportunity is available for the 2026/2027 school year and is designed for a passionate educator with a commitment to helping students with diverse learning needs succeed in both self-contained and co-taught settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver special education services within a self-contained high school classroom. Work alongside general education teachers in co-taught English Language Arts and Mathematics courses, and offer support for Social Studies and Science. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations tailored to each student's needs. Maintain thorough documentation and regularly assess students' progress to guide instruction and support. Collaborate frequently with families, administrators, and multidisciplinary team members to foster a holistic approach to student growth. Foster an inclusive and constructive learning environment built on mutual respect, encouragement, and academic achievement. Manage a self-contained classroom with approximately 7-9 students and support a similar number during a co-taught period, in partnership with another Special Education Teacher.
Desired Qualifications:
Active Illinois LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I) certification. Previous experience with high school-aged learners is preferred. Demonstrated expertise in developing, reviewing, and implementing IEPs. Ability to collaborate seamlessly with both general and special education colleagues. Outstanding organizational and communication skills.
