About Children's Home Association of Illinois (CHAIL): CHAIL is a youth, family, and community focused 501(c)(3) organization with multiple locations and 450 staff, located in Peoria, IL. Position:
This position works with students who are struggling to meet the classroom expectations. It may include helping the student get back on track in the classroom or working with a student that has been removed from class. The ultimate goal is to build relationships and teach the students coping skills that they can use when they become frustrated. Communication takes place between this position and the teachers to make a plan of student expectations. This position requires the use of physical restraints for students that are at danger of hurting themselves or someone else. Flexibility and communication are essential as each day is unpredictable in terms of which students need help and which interventions will be utilized. Maintain responsibility and supervision for students who leave the classroom environment collaborate with behavior management, help monitor and evaluate students' behavior at school, be proactive with assisting students in a crisis situation; gain rapport and office support to students and maintain professional boundaries and demeanor. The preferred candidate will have a thorough knowledge of youth development, childhood trauma, special education, and a school-based system in addition to experience working in a setting with youth and children exposed to trauma.Job Qualifications:
Para-professional Certificate required or ability to obtain a Para-professional Certificate. Bachelor's degree in psychology, Social Work, Education or related field preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in students, staff, and families served. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work within a treatment team. Ability to handle job related manners in a professional, diplomatic and confidential manner. Hearing and speaking ability which allows for effective oral communication of information. Ability to physically transport self and students to various locations. Physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job related issues and stress. Physical ability to perform physical restraints.Benefits:
